About “Light in the Guinea Grass”
During the dry season, green fields of guinea grass become dusty, tan, and delicate. But at the right time of day, sunlight will filter through the dry grass illuminating the savanna in pale shades of gold and silver fire.
Guinea Grass (Megathyrsus maximus) is a common species in the bushveld that is favoured by many grazing antelope and elephants.

Artist’s Note
“The idea behind this piece is to capture the sensation of light being projected through dried grass in the bushveld. The patterns are designed to imitate the delicate order of the flowering seeds on a stem of grass which is appropriately (and somewhat poetically) known as its inflorescence.”
