About “Hunt | Kuhlota”
The struggle between predator and prey produces the greatest dramas of the bushveld but it is not as one-sided as many believe. Both carnivore and herbivore risk their lives when they clash. The hunt begs the most primordial questions: Who is faster? Bolder? More elusive? Who will outmaneuver who? The answers are often humbling.
Hunt = “Kuhlota” in Tsonga, the predominant African language from the region in which these tracks were collected.

Artist’s Note
“Hunt | Kuhlota depicts a stark and messy contrast between the bushveld’s predators and prey. All tracks in white come from various ungulates and antelope. The red prints of predators encircle the herbivores, intruding on and breaking up their pattern.”
