About “Origin | Masungulo”
It is said that humankind first emerged in the cradle of Africa and that our first stories were told around early fires. Stories about elephants, lions, and all manner of creatures living with us in the bushveld. These beings have been with us from the beginning and their silhouettes continue to dance around the fires of our subconscious.
Origin = “Masungulo” in Tsonga, the predominant African language from the region in which these tracks were collected.

Artist’s Note
“As I painted Origin, it felt like a culmination of many patterns and techniques I had used in other paintings, but not all together. I wanted the piece to play motion, light, and shadow - to have some resemblance to seeing silhouettes in the firelight.”
