About “Poacher’s Moon”

A tribute to African Lions. A male lion track is highlighted in the center of this powerful piece followed by various ungulates that lions are known to prey upon in the wild.

“Poacher’s Moon” is a bush term for the full moon. It is believed that poaching activity increases during these nights due to the higher visibility. Learn more about African Parks’ anti-poaching work.

Artist’s Note

"I collected the dark track in the center from a male lion in Welgevonden Game Reserve. The golden tracks on the outer edge are from various female lionesses found in Balule Game Reserve. The lioness tracks all come from the same pride of 9-10 females and juveniles. The terrain in Balule was, at times, difficult for track collection but I got lucky with a few off-season rains allowing me to collect these excellent lioness prints.”
